UVU Touchstones

Volunteered August 2022-January 2025

While adjusting to university life as a transfer student, my advisor suggested I join the school’s literary journal as an introductory editor. These journals are built to help writing students publish creative prose and poetry while also assisting in solidifying students’ editing skills.

This opportunity helped me nurture my passion for writing while being up to date on editing skills from the Chicago Manual of Style. As I continued to participate in the program, I was eventually asked to serve as the Head Prose Editor for the literary journal. This role required me to teach up to 15 college-aged editors how to edit properly. I assisted in publishing 5 editions of the journal while in constant contact with volunteer editors for the publication. Every single article I helped to edit won awards as one of the top articles, facilitated by writers active in the field.

I left the role in January 2025 to give myself more time to focus on my post-graduate life. However, I am deeply grateful for the experience this role gave me in teaching, editing, and publishing.

Here’s a PDF portfolio given to one of the faculty advisors on some of the writing samples I participated in.
